David Manser Sealed Onion Globular Wine Bottle Rye East Sussex
Sealed globular bottle from the county of East Sussex. Rye is a small port town on the East coast of Sussex and this bottle was made for the local gentleman David Manser Junior. He set up a partnership with Edward Apps who was a spirit merchant (unknown start date) but dissolved the company in 1811. Historical record was found in the Sussex Weekly newspaper dated to this time. Wild jagged lip with white blooming. Measures 15 inches tall by 13 inches wide. The bottle is obviously blown but has no pontil to base. Because the lip is snapped off i can only assume this bottle was invertedly blown and also poses another curious edge to this exceptional bottle. A historically important bottle of the region and the only known example existing. Good condition. C1810
