Kings Head Oxford Tavern Sealed Glass Mallet Wine Bottle J&M Freeman

A rare opportunity to buy the only known example of a small half sized mallet wine bottle from the Kings Head Tavern in Oxford. Well struck seal with image of a king and initials for the tavern owners John & Margaret Freeman. John passed away in 1724 but his wife continued to run the tavern until 1745. A few examples of this seal are known in onion form but no examples dated or undated are known in this form. A crack exists in the neck but has not been detached and  has never been broken. Attractive patina from burial with a minute edge nibble to seal, no other damage apart from some minor scratches. Height 5.2 inches, width 4.5 inches. English C1720
